Gorillas Baseball 8th Grade Team Defeats North County Longhorns, 15-13, in Come From Behind Win

Filed under: Gorilla News, Sports — Coach Tony at 11:14 pm on Sunday, March 28, 2010

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – I guess April fools came a few days early because what appeared to be a ball club getting beat down changed in the 4th and 5th innings and out came the sluggers!

On a hot afternoon the Gorillas 8th grade team were down 13-1 before mounting a comeback in the 4th and 5th innings to defeat the North County Longhorns baseball team 15-13 Sunday at Damato Field.

The Gorillas made its impressive comeback by scoring 10 times in the top of the fourth and another 4 runs in the top of the fifth.

Gorillas Head Coach, Mike Martinez was quoted as saying in the bottom of the 3rd inning; ”guys, do we want to quit now or do we want to fight?” The team responded, “coach we want to fight.”

“I think it woke our offense up a little bit, to hear coach Mike say that to the guys” Coach Tony said after the Gorillas rallied for a 10 spot in the 4th inning. “We’re not going to panic by any means just because we’re down in any game. It was an absolute grind today, that’s for sure, I can’t remember winning a game where we’ve struggled like we did this afternoon. So it’s very gratifying.”

The Gorillas 8th grade team continues to display why its one of the most feared teams in the 8th grade division. OK, sorry. This was no Stanley Cup. But it was a stunning moment, a fittingly Hollywood style shocker to decide a remarkable baseball game and these boys do it every weekend. If you get a chance make it out to watch one of their games, I promise you wont be disappointed.

Gorillas Launch Facebook Fan Page

Facebook is a social network, not a shopping network, so why should we spend resources establishing and maintaining a Fan Page on Facebook? (A Fan Page, by the way, is a profile for an organization rather than for an individual.) Because even if members have no intention of buying anything on Facebook, the relationships we can establish and community that we’ll build there can benefit the Gorillas in countless ways.

State of the Gorilla Nation

December 21st, 2009:

It has been an exciting year to say the least. Without skipping a beat the organization continues to stay strong and deals with all the ups and downs of select baseball. We are excited about the upcoming 2010 season as we have great expectations for the teams and the players. At this point in the season discussions and decisions are being made for next year on where to go for tournaments. Traveling to play a tournament is a great experience for everyone involved, mostly for the kids. Gorillas Baseball will continue to travel to or will find the best baseball in the country to test our teams abilities.

We continued to build our winning tradition with our strong group of teams. All clubs are quickly recognized as elite teams in their respective age groups and continue to expand their recognition. Our teams are making a run, day in and day out, showing that on any given weekend they can play with anybody. Our program and our kids have made and continue to make an impact in the select world of baseball.

The main reason why we are alive, kicking, and motivated to keep building this program we are all a part of is to build a tradition of playing at the highest levels so that our guys can reach the next level. In every select program and team, there are going to be ups and downs. “Drama”. No buts about it. In our 5th season and still going strong it never seems to amaze me how people can be so negative. Throughout the years here in Gorilla Nation we learn to have thick skin. We make our mistakes, no question about it. We are not perfect by any means. However, our hearts have always been in the right place. With our Alumni and the tradition we continue to build we are able to conquer ALL NEGATIVITY. We have our ways of teaching the game of baseball from the physical and mental side. We will not change what has worked in the past and is working now. Gorilla baseball is not for everybody, that is for sure. But for the ones that are here, in the end, are succeeding at the highest level. We work very hard to make it right. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how hard you work people will always try to bring you down. That’s life. We’ve had several kids leave the program only to want to return. There is a difference…NO QUESTION!!! The question you must ask yourself: Is it for you?

The Gorilla name has come a long way these last few years and when things weren’t done the Gorilla way it didn’t work. So, we would like to thank everyone for your strong commitment and continued support to the organization. We are an honorable organization — and resilient, too. We have been through a lot together. We have met challenges and faced them head on, and we know that more lie ahead. Yet we can go forward with confidence — because the State of our Gorilla Nation is strong … our cause in the baseball world is right … and today that cause goes on.

Park View Gets Storybook Ending To 2009 Season

A storybook ending is what I called last Sunday’s 6-3 victory over Asia Pacific in the little league world series championship game — and maybe it was. I had written a post after the Division 3 championship titled “Hollywood Ending??? If you ask me, The Movie is just gettin’ started!” Well now we do have a Hollywood Ending, oh yeah and by the way that’s his nickname. Hollywood Andy Rios! Chants of M-V-P could be heard miles away as Mr. Hollywood came to the plate in his final at bat and hit an RBI single to left field putting an exclamation point on what turned out to be a storybook ending to a great little league career for him and his teammates.

GAME DAY: U.S. Semi-final matchup

Filed under: All Stars, Gorilla News, Sports, Tournaments — Coach Tony at 9:09 am on Thursday, August 27, 2009

Williamsport PA– Williamsport is home to an appealing variety of historic buildings, museums, and interesting sightseeing opportunities. You can stroll through Williamsport’s sights on your own, or take a more organized approach to your sightseeing by local tours. Or if your like me you will take advantage of Williamsports biggest attraction, the Little League World Series. You can take advantage of this one the best both indoors and out. From a simple picnic or afternoon retreat at the park to the more adventurous who watch it on ESPN, either way it is the most exciting thing in this small town for a two week period.

The West baseball team continues their stretch of play with a single game elimination U.S. Semi-Final tonight against the SouthEast team from Georgia at Lamade Field. The West has been playing good ball but received a wake-up call against SouthWest power house Texas, losing 6-3. The West plays tonight at 8 p.m. EST.

Naysayers continue to say the West hasn’t faced any pitching and that is a direct quote from Georgia player Trey Maddox. The West will go in with a chip on their shoulder to prove Maddox wrong and show that the other night was not the team that we have come to expect great things from. The ball club came out against Texas very flat and just hoping to hit homers to break the LLWS record. I believe that was fixed at yesterdays practices. The boys had practice in the morning and evening and I must say they look loose and ready. Now its up to them to go out and deliver and show everyone once again that we can play with anyone.

Our pitching has gone under the radar since All-Stars began; the offensive firepower this team possesses has gotten all the attention and taken away from the stellar pitching performances that have been displayed by Kiko Garcia, Luke Ramirez, Isaiah Armenta, Oscar Castro, Seth Godfrey, Andy Rios and Markus Melin. Our pitching has kept games close and in some circumstances shut teams out completely, but not to count out the defense we have displayed starting with the team back-stop Jr. Porras, who has been the guy not only making all the plays behind the plate but taking control of the pitching staff. Following Porras’ is a defense that is second to none with Bulla Graft and Andy Rios locking down the middle of the infield, the best nine hitter in America handles the hot corner with ease and firstbase is split between Castro, Ramirez, and Roberto who also patrols right field. Tonight I hope to see our pitching, defense and hitting come together once again to silence the mouths of the naysayers. Game time is just under 8 hours away and as I sit in the hotel lobby the adrenaline is starting to pick up in this place.
